Most of the tourists travel through Namibia with a rental car or as part of a (mini)bus group. As hitchhiking is prohibited in Namibia and due to the long distances other options have to be considered. Please note, that you ay not enter any National Park without a vehicle!
Local people frequently use mini buses (“Ovambo Taxi”). They are not very reliably, mostly overcrowded and not really a mean of transport for tourist. Safer and more reliable options are:
- Shuttle buses (mostly between Windhoek, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and Otjiwarongo), e.g. Town Hoppers or Trio Transfers
- Local flights (scheduled) with Air Namibia or Bay Air Aviation CityLink
- TransNamib Starline Passenger Services; a very slow mean of transport to the south and Walvis Bay from Windhoek (Schedule)
- Bus services, e.g. Ekonolux (rather dodgy) and Intercape Mainliner (very comfortable & reliable)
