WINDHOEK, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) — Namibia Ministry of Environment and Tourism together with the country’s statistics agency have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will see the agency provide technical support in tourism statistics.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Windhoek on Wednesday, the country’s Statistician General Alex Shimuafeni said that the MoU was going to make it possible for the country to have up to date environment and tourism statistics.
He said that this would make it possible for the country to keep up with the tourism sector which is constantly growing.
“It is important for the country to have tourism statistics so as help with planning purposes. As a country, we need to know where tourists are coming from and how many each year,” he said.
By having tourism statistics, the country will also be able to know where to target its marketing while attracting foreign investment.
Currently the country does not have up to date tourism statistics which makes it difficult to plan for the future.
